We are at a fork in the road as our society faces social and environmental challenges like climate change, mass-extinction, inequality and corruption that threaten to undermine the systems we have taken for granted for generations.
While these issues are diverse and complex, a wealth of high-quality information exists which is devoted to solutions from a broad range of sources, indeed all the solutions for the challenges we face exist today.
The finance and investment industry have a significant influence on the outcomes for many of these issues, both through the allocation of financial capital and the exercising of ownership and other rights.
While there is great work being done across a range of activities to reduce the gap between what is required to address these issues and what is being delivered by the finance sector, there is currently no library which provides easy access to the information and tools people inside and outside the industry need to build and implement the case for change.
In our recent survey, Google was overwhelming the most used method for finding information on all manner of nuanced topics, despite most publishers of relevant content not cross-promoting other relevant sources and, like so much of the internet, the latest content being more heavily promoted than the best. We believe there should be a better way.
Altiorem is building an online library and resource centre dedicated to facilitating, promoting, and influencing the investment and broader finance industry towards long-term, sustainable and purposeful allocation of capital. Altiorem, a registered charity, will support individuals and groups advocating for and implementing change within their organisations and the industry more broadly.
More than a library we are seeking to build a self-sustaining system where knowledge is summarised, shared, added to and refined by a committed and diverse group of people who recognise the importance of finance in delivering on the Sustainable Development Goals.
